Pacific Blue: Simple, Colorful Winged Eyes (88 Original Palette)

Simple look featuring 3 shadows: 

• A light aqua, a medium bright blue, and a dark purple.
• Dark blue/purple liner optional.
• Black mascara.

Plum Pastel Eyes with Ballerina Pink Cheeks and Lips

Pastel Eyes: MAC Aqua, with MAC Lovely Lily pigment and Circa Plum pigment

Step 1: Pack a matte pastel aqua over the inner half od the lids (MAC Aqua).

Step 2: Apply a sift shimmery pastel mauve (MAC Lovely Lily limited edition pigment but there are plenty of soft shimmery purples around) over the outer halves of the lids.

Step 3: Apply a deeper grey-violet (MAC Circa Plum pigment) to the outer halves of the socket line. 

Step 4: Apply a metallic green liner (Bourjois #44 Golden Grey Session) right to the inner corners of the eyes, and a deep metallic plum (Rimmel Exaggerate in #220 Perfect Plum) along the outer 3/4 of the upper and bottom lash line. Do a thicker wing towards the outer half of the upper eye. 

Step 5: Finished with mascara.

Everything else is kept soft and sweet in ballerina pinks.

On the cheeks: 

• Essence Blush Souffle in 01 Ballerina Pink
• MAC MSF in Blonde

On lips: 

• Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake

Butterfly: Strong purple and blue winged smoky eye (88 matte palette)

This isn't a butterfly makeup look. It's just that the blue reminds me of butterflies' wings. The makeup itself is a standard smoky cat-eye that is flattering on most eye shapes, and the lips and cheeks are kept a pale luminous pink to stand up to the strong, matte eyes.

Step 1: Apply a good base on your lids, and then pack on a strong matte blue shadow on the inner half of upper lids, and along the inner half of the lower lashes as well. 

Step 2: Repeat with a strong, matte purple on the outer halves.

Step 3: Important step. Smoke the edges out into a smoky wing, past the outer corners of the eyes.

Step 4: Add definition by packing a matte black along the upper lash line as liner.

Step 5: Apply black mascara on top and bottom lashes to finish the eye look.

On the rest of the face:

• Use a soft eyeshadow blending brush to apply pale pink shimmer to the brow bones and cheekbones, then apply a pink blush normally. I used MAC Porcelain Pink for highlights and NYX Pinky on the cheeks
• Apply a pale baby pink lipstick lightly (Barry M Baby Pink #100), and top with a shimmery pink gloss (MAC Cha Cha Lipglass)

Leather, Silver and Denim: Neutral Eye for Day

For many people, neutral means "taupe", "brown", "grey", black", "beige". It means safe, reliable, and flattering for most skin tones.

Well, I wanted a departure from the usual combination of coordinated shades (like brown, on brown, on more brown), so I went for the colors of everyday items that we would consider as "neutrals" of a sort. Silver jewelery, dark blue denim, soft tan leather.

Step 1: As the shades are quite soft, it would be good to apply a good base so that you can really showcase the sheen and colors. 

Pack MAC Patina on the inner 1/3 of the lids and lower lash line.

Step 2: Pack a soft steel shade in the center of the lids. I chose MAC Electra because it is not too harsh and white, and not too deep for the center of the lids to pop.

Step 3: In the outer corners, apply a dark matte navy with a small blender, and extend down along the outer half of the lower lash line as well. I used Revlon Riviera Blue. You can use a black or grey, but those shades would not bring out silver and blue tones as well.

With a clean, soft blending brush, smoke out the outer corners of the navy so it becomes a slightly wing. If you want a more dramatic and contoured look, don't smoke it out.

Step 4: Apply black liner and mascara to finish the look. 

The final look should be defined and interesting to look at, but flattering to most eye and skin colors, and not too dramatic for day time wear.

Quick and Dirty: Smoky Turquoise and Black Eye

When I say quick and dirty, I really mean quick and dirty. You will need a 

• white/beige/pale-yellow liner (matte), 
• false lashes or mascara, 
• a deep charcoal grey matte shadow, and 
• a satiny deep-turquoise blue.

Step 1: Apply the dark moss-grey matte shade in an upright triangle at the outer corner of the eyes. (Basically, do your outer V and then fill it in.)

Step 2: Apply a rich jewel-blue to the rest of the lid, within the socket area. Be sure to pack on the color rather than sweeping and swirling your brush, for maximum intensity.

 Step 3: Finally, run the moss-grey shadow generously along the lower lash line, apply false lashes (optional), black mascara to top and bottom lashes, and then gently line the waterline with a pale matte pencil to finish.

Velvet Brown with a Purple Twist (88 Warm and 88 Shimmer Palette)

This is a simple, flattering look which is wearable for the day, and fun for the night. You can also streamline it to just 2 shadow shades if you want. A matte medium-deep brown, and a metallic medium-purple.


1. Apply base and then pack on a medium brown matte shadow all over the socket, and along the outer half of the lower lash line.

2. Fill in lid with a deep matte taupe brown and layer on a medium satin brown, blending and spreading up over the brow bones. Then line upper lash line with dark brown or plum liner.

3. Apply a rich medium metallic purple wet (I used MAC Fix+ to foil my shadow for instant liner), JUST along the lashline, and layer for more dramatic sheen if needed.

4. Apply generous amounts of black mascara on top and bottom lashes, and voila.
